Yahoo is taking on media streaming companies like Netflix and Amazon, by announcing the airing of two new original series that could draw more viewers. According to the announcement, these original comedies have been created by very talented writers, producers, and directors, and they will be the first in Yahoo's lineup of long-form shows. The shows will be available in 2015.
One of the shows is called “Other Space”, a sci-fi galactic adventure that is set in the 22nd Century. The show is about a group of people which search for alien life with no success, when suddenly they come upon an alternate universe, more mysterious and threatening than what they had hoped for. Facing many dangers, the spaceship's crew must explore the new universe if they wish to find a way back home on Earth. “Other Space” will be eight, half-hour episodes, directed by Paul Feig, who is known for directing “The Office,” and “Bridesmaids.”
The other show coming to Yahoo is “Sin City Saints.” This unconventional comedy is set in the front office of a fictional pro-basketball team. The protagonist is the powerful, Silicon Valley-member Jake Tullus, who wants to buy the pro-basketball team to fulfill a dream, but it soon proves to be more than he could handle. The storyline will follow the ups and downs of the first major league franchise in Las Vegas. “Sin City Saints” will be eight half-hour episodes, directed by Bryan Gordon, who is known for “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and “Party Down,” and produced by Mike Tollin, known for “Smallville,” and “Varsity Blues.”
Yahoo promises to bring even more fresh, original, and contemporary entertainment programming.
