Why Apple Wants Nokia's Lumia Photography Lead, Ari Partinen

Ari Partinen, Lumia photography lead, announced on Lumia’s Twitter profile that he is making his way to Apple's residence, Cupertino, in June. On a paper detailing Nokia's PureView oversampling imaging technology, he is listed as a co-author next to head of imaging technologies Juha Alakarhu, senior benchmarking Tero Vuori and Eero Salmelin, all of whom are now following Microsoft's buyout of Nokia's phone business.

There is no relevant information on what he will be doing at Apple, but according to his profile he has so far worked with mobile imaging on cameras like N8 and 808 PureView and also as a commercial photographer.

Lumia 920 is one of the first phones able to feature optical image stabilization, and 808 PureView and Lumia 1020 use oversampling software and large 41-megapixels to have the best image quality so far seen on a phone. In the meantime, Apple is using less potent hardware in its iPhones, but has excellent cameras as a result of its image processing competence.
