Most of the things you should pack for a week-long business trip are rather self-explanatory: You obviously need enough clothes, and items like smartphones, laptops and tablets are a given in this modern world too.
In this article, we list a few things that are perhaps slightly less obvious, but no less important.
When you lay out your clothes for a business trip, the obvious thing to do is think, “seven days equals seven outfits.”
Due to stingy baggage restrictions, it’s tempting to try to cut corners even further and take less than you need. This is a mistake, as you will quickly find out when you spill a cup of coffee down your only suit just before an important meeting.
Hotel Internet access can be really inconsistent. Sometimes it’s great, but sometimes it’s expensive, slow, or just broken.
Thankfully, it’s now easy to obtain 3/4G mobile hotspots that work almost everywhere and provide a Wi-Fi signal to all of your electronic devices. If you end up with perfect hotel Wi-Fi, you may not need it, but it’s great to have a backup plan.
Given that it’s almost certain you will take a smartphone and/or a tablet PC with you, spend a little while downloading a few movies or TV shows before you set off. This small amount of effort will spare you time with mind-numbing in-flight magazines and aging hotel movies.
Presumably you want to return from your business trip with new contacts, ideas and sales leads? What you don’t want to come back with is a cold or other bug, and planes and trains are the perfect place to pick them up.
So slip a small bottle of antibacterial hand wash in your luggage—then you don’t have to worry quite so much about the person behind you on the plane who won’t stop coughing…
