Benefits of Decreasing Bad Cholesterol

LDL cholesterol, or what most Americans know as “bad” cholesterol, can cause a number of health problems. These issues stem from the fact that having too much bad cholesterol will mean the lining of your arteries will slowly get clogged, possibly leading to adverse cardiac events. In order to lower your level of bad cholesterol, here are some lifestyle tips:

Eating high-fibre foods

Fibre is a material that reduces the density of bad cholesterol. You can easily find solid doses of fibre in everyday foods such as apples, beans, and oatmeal. Aim for about five to ten grams of fibre each day.

Eating nuts

Nuts are also great for reducing bad cholesterol. Nuts contain specific fatty acids which maintain the blood vessels and keep them healthy, reducing the likelihood of bad cholesterol, dead cells, and other damaging materials sticking to the outside walls of your arteries.

Using olive oil

Olive oil might seem like something that you only use when cooking in a pan. But it’s also a very nice way to reduce your bad cholesterol. Just two tablespoons each day will have health benefits, and your heart will thank you for it. Use it as a substitute for butter on spreads such as toast for a nice kick.

Regular exercise

Exercise has been a remedy for health problems for years, and it also protects against bad cholesterol. That’s because regular exercise lowers blood pressure, which helps to stop your arteries from getting clogged. Half an hour of exercise for three to five days a week can make a world of a difference.
