"Urgent Security Update:" Your Bitly Account May Be Insecure

The link-shortening service, Bitly, released an “urgent security update” informing that it has disconnected users' Facebook and Twitter accounts as a consequence of a possible crack.

Attention Bitly users: The company announced on its official blog that there may be a reason to believe that Bitly account credentials have been compromised. The company's CEO, Mark Josephson, updated the post in order to inform users that have Twitter or Facebook profiles connected to their Bitly accounts about a probable breach.

“We have no indication at this time that any accounts have been accessed without permission,” Mark Josephson wrote in the security update.” For our user's protection, we have taken proactive steps to ensure the security of all accounts.”

There is a step-by step explanation on the blog about how to secure your account. Josephson provides instructions on how to change your API key and Oauth token. The following step is to reset your password and then reconnect your Twitter or Facebook accounts.

Proactive measures have been already taken in order to secure all account credentials. “We take your security and trust in us seriously. The team has been working hard to ensure all accounts are secure. We apologize for any inconvenience and we will continue to update our Twitter feed,” wrote Bitly CEO.
