In an effort to make the site more user-friendly, Twitter has made some test changes to its profile design. The new Twitter redesign is compared to the design of Facebook, Facebook's app Paper, Pinterest, and some similar websites. This move is a bit uncommon for Twitter because changes are usually tested on a small number of users, while yesterday a large audience could notice the redesign.
The Twitter test boasts a vertical mosaic tweet stream, profile picture on the left, and a wide cover photo at the top. Right underneath it, you can find the tweets count, followers, favourites, following, photos and lists. The popular Twitter list is no longer standard, but more of a box-shaped collage of tweets, scattered around the page, in a descending style. In yesterday's test, Twitter's focus was targeted more on photos.
It seems that Twitter's focus on photos, according to some users, is a step in the wrong direction, as people go on Twitter because they are bored of Facebook. Some users also fear that the Tweet limit of 140 characters will expand, thus losing the medium's appeal, as users love the micro-blogging that's unique to Twitter.
Twitter's team of engineers claim that they are constantly improving their services to suit the needs of users, and especially new users who have never tried Twitter before. The latest test changes are not exactly final, so we still need to wait and see if this new look is a “pass.”
