In 2012, Yahoo began the "mobile first" strategy which acquired the creation of new mobile-focused opportunities and redesigned the mobile offerings that already existed.
The latest app to get a makeover is the Yahoo Mail app, which now looks richer with Yahoo news, finance, sports and weather sections. With these updates, Yahoo hasn't made any changes to the mail app features. The email doesn’t appear to be changed, but the new app offers a news feed, weather field and sports and finance.
"One of the design principles we had from the very beginning was, if you're a Yahoo user and you use this app on a daily basis, we want to make sure that we don't get in the way. All the fully fledged functionality is still there and it's familiar," announced Yahoo's Senior Director of Product Management for Mobile.
If you try launching the updated app you will notice a new menu bar at the bottom with "News" and "Today" tabs. The most interesting thing about this app is its capability of personalizing the content to every single user, just like Yahoo's official web page. The "News" tab offers you stories made-to-measure, according to your interests and expectations, while the "Today" tab supplies weather, sports and stock market updates.
In order to stay with the idea of “not getting in the way”, and if you don't want to use the “Today” and “News” fields, you are free to stick with the previous version of the app.
