The Ten Best Games Of 2013

2013 was a great year for gamers. In this short article we list ten of the best games that appeared throughout the year, across a whole host of platforms.

1. Super Mario 3D World (Nintendo Wii U)

Nintendo endured a lot of cynicism about its new Wii U console in the early part of the year, but this title silenced the critics. It’s perhaps the finest Mario game since Super Mario 64.

2. Grand Theft Auto 5 (PS3, Xbox 360)

GTA is not for everyone, and with torture and sexual scenes, it’s certainly not for the kids, but GTA5 was a big hit nonetheless, with one of the most enormous game worlds ever seen.

3. Rayman Legends (Various Formats)

The 2D Rayman nearly knocked Mario from his platform perch. Originally planned as a Wii U exclusive, it’s now on xBox and PS3 too.

4. The Last of Us (PS3)

A survival game at heart, but with plenty of other elements, this has been described as a “masterpiece.”

5. The Legend of Zelda – A Link Between Worlds (Nintendo 3DS)

Returning to the game world from its 1992 predecessor, this is THE Zelda game the fans have been waiting for.

6. Star Command (iOS)

Although it’s a bit of a wild card, this unlicensed, yet distinctly Star Trek-esque game, has been a sleeper hit for iOS.

7. Pikmin 3 (Nintendo Wii U)

Pikmin 3 marked the turning of Nintendo’s fortunes. It’s an accessible strategy game with simply gorgeous HD graphics.

8. Luigi’s Mansion 2 – Dark Moon (Nintendo 3DS)

Luigi’s Mansion 2 was a home console-sized experience in pocket form. It was one of many huge hits for Nintendo’s handheld during 2013.

9. Rayman Fiesta Run (iOS, Android)

This is Rayman’s second appearance in our top 10: This simplified platformer rewards repeat play and is completely free!

10. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (Various Formats)

Gamers on most home consoles have had the chance to enjoy this deep and rewarding pirate-themed masterpiece.
