The Samsung Galaxy S5 Is Finally Here, And More Of Samsung

Samsung revealed its latest crown jewel smartphone, the Galaxy S5, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona yesterday, alongside the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches, and the Gear Fit wrist wearable.

The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches feature 1.63-inch Super AMOLED displays, Bluetooth 4.0 connection, 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM, 1GHz dual-core processor, as well as a heart rate monitor and various exercise modes, and they are compatible with lots of Samsung devices.

The Gear Fit is a well designed, small and comfortable wristband, with a 1.84 AMOLED, 432x128 pixels touchscreen. With the Bluetooth connection to your smartphone, you can check your messages and emails, and receive notifications. This incredible gadget has a heart rate monitor and it's water and dust-proof.

There were many rumours about the Samsung Galaxy S5 recently, so it's only fair that we present the facts about this long anticipated smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S5 specifications

Samsung S5 comes with a 5.1-inch, 1080p, full HD Super AMOLED display, underneath which is the home button. S5 specs include a 2.5 GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 2,800mAh battery that provides better battery life, along with power-saving modes to get the most of your smartphone. The S5 also packs an SD card slot that supports up to 128GB, so you don't have to worry about storage.

The S5 software is very Galaxy-like. Samsung's smartphone is powered by Android 4.4.2 KitKat, and the interface also looks very familiar, with the arrangement of folders, apps and widgets. The Settings Menu has changed though, and now has the form of a vertical scroll stream, organized in subcategories. Some S-apps feature: the S Voice personal assistant, My Magazine news reader, S Health, and the Knox security app.

Samsung S5's design

Samsung S5 boasts a classy and elegant design. The smartphone has plastic rounded edges, but the back cover adds an entirely new feel to the smartphone, presenting a dimple-pattern that gives extreme comfort when holding it. Samsung S5 will come in white, black, gold and blue, depending on the market.

Lots of impressive features

  • The Samsung S5 packs a 16 megapixel back camera, with HDR techniques that improve picture quality. The S5 camera also has the fastest auto-focus of up to 0.3 seconds, and the Selective Focus mode which sharps out one area of the picture, and blurs the rest.

  • The home button on the S5 has an integrated fingerprint scanner. The scanner locks and unlocks the phone, but also unlocks private documents and pictures, replaces web passwords, and lets you purchase items via Paypal.

  • The Samsung S5 is IP67-rated for water and dust, which means it can be submersed three feet under water, for up to half an hour.

  • Being fitness oriented, the Samsung S5 packs a heart rate monitor, which is located right beneath the rear camera. If you don't move or talk, the smartphone will read your pulse from your fingertip in under ten seconds. The S5 also features the S Health app, which can be synced with Samsung's Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches, and the Gear Fit.

It seems the Galaxy S5 contains everything Samsung could possibly bring to the table. The Samsung Galaxy S5 will be available from April 11, across 150 countries worldwide. Samsung hasn't disclosed any details on the pricing of the three devices yet.
