Starbucks App Tips Your Barista

Feeling happy with your Starbucks beverage and want to tip your coffee guy? Now, there's an app for that. As of March 19th, Starbucks will allow UK, US and Canadian customers to tip their Starbucks baristas with any amount from 50 cents to 2 dollars, by updating their current Starbucks iOS app.

The app is set to feature “Shake to Pay,” which will allow customers to load the Starbucks card from the app, by simply shaking the phone. Upon paying for an order, a push notification will ask the user to tip the barista.

If customers decide not to leave a tip when at the Starbucks counter, they can do so up to two hours after they leave the shop. Everything customers buy via the Starbucks app is saved and stored as a digital receipt.

Starbucks' Chief Digital Officer, Adam Brotman, claims that more than 11% of Starbucks' transactions are made through its mobile app. And with more than 10 million active users of this app, baristas will have the chance to earn some significant extra cash.

So far, the Starbucks app that allows customers to pay for coffee, sandwiches and pastries with their mobile phones has been quite popular. Now, customers can still tip their baristas even if they don't carry a wallet.

Starbucks says the app will soon come to Android as well.
