Before their Unpacked Event at the Mobile World Congress, Samsung announced its two new smartwatch models: the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo. What is notable about these smartwatches, is that they run on Tizen (operating system), and not on Android like their predecessor, the Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
Samsung smartwatches feature 1.63-inch Super AMOLED displays, 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM, 1GHz dual-core processor, as well as a heart rate monitor and exercise modes, Bluetooth 4.0 connection, and a music player. The difference between the two is that, the Gear 2 packs a 2 megapixel camera, whereas the Gear 2 Neo doesn't.
The Gear 2 is said to come in gold brown, wild orange and charcoal black, while the Gear 2 Neo is said to arrive in wild orange, mocha grey and charcoal black.
Samsung claims that the Gear 2 and Gear Neo will be compatible with lots of Samsung devices, despite the change of operating system. Running on Tizen, the smartwatches will have access to Tizen-based apps like eBay, Feedly, Evernote, CNN, BMW, Line, Path, Paypal, etc.
The Korean company hasn't released details on the pricing yet, but from April on these watches will be available to buy anywhere in the world.
