Must-Have Skills Your Resume Can't Do Without

Even though unemployment rates are gradually beginning to fall across the Western world as the effects of the financial crisis ease, there is still substantial competition for most job roles.

If you are looking for work at the moment, you need to do your best to stand out from the competition to stand a chance of quickly securing a job. Your resume is your main opportunity to “get your foot in the door” with a chosen employer, so it’s essential to get it right.

Here are three “must have” skills that you should ensure you highlight on your resume:

1. IT skills

Very few industries nowadays operate without heavy use of computers and the Internet—so it’s essential that you show you are “tech savvy” in your CV.

If you feel that your computer skills are lacking, then now’s the time to brush up on them. If you’re unemployed right now, then you have time to take some online courses and develop new areas of expertise.

2. Interpersonal skills

It’s common to the point of cliché to put something like “excellent communication skills with individuals of all levels” on a CV, but it’s essential to include it. Good applicants can genuinely demonstrate these skills, and it makes them desirable employees.

Sadly, you can’t fake strong interpersonal skills. If you don’t truly have them, it will soon become apparent at your interview!

3. The ability to work “under pressure”

The world is still recovering from the effects of a global recession: Many employers are still working to limited budgets and making do with small teams. Therefore, the ability to work under pressure is a very relevant skill in today’s market, and one that must be highlighted on your resume.
