Microsoft Releases Earnings for Q3 Fiscal 2014, With New CEO Satya Nadella

In a press release, Microsoft reported their third quarter financial results for fiscal 2014. Concluding with March 31, 2014, the corporation announced revenue of $20.4 billion for Q3. Amy Hood, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Microsoft said, “We delivered solid, broad-based financial results driven by strong execution and continued cost discipline. We are focusing our resources to drive growth and long-term shareholder value.”

 

Microsoft's CEO, Satya Nadella, is pleased with the results as well, claiming that the company is doing well with consumer services like Office 365 Home and Bing, and with their cloud solutions. In a press release Nadella stated, “We are focused on executing rapidly and delivering bold, innovative products that people love to use.”

According to Microsoft, Devices and Consumer revenue was $8.3 billion, marking a growth of 12%, Windows OEM revenue went up 4%, while Surface revenue increased over 50%. Bing U.S. search share rose to 18.6%, while search advertising revenue rose 38%.

 

Microsoft topped 4.4 million Office 365 Home subscribers, and the company said it sold 2 million Xbox consoles, 1.2 million of which were Xbox One consoles.

 

Microsoft's productivity server solutions such as Lync, SharePoint, and Exchange, marked considerable double-digit growth. Kevin Turner, Microsoft's COO says, “Our products and services continue to deliver differentiated business value to our customers, and we continue to win share in areas like cloud services, data platform, and infrastructure management.”

 

Microsoft's net income for the third quarter of fiscal 2014 was reported at $5.66 billion, which is slightly down from last year's net income of $6.05 billion for the same quarter. Earnings per share were 68 cents for Q3, as compared to last year's Q3 earnings of 72 cents per share.

The third quarter gross margin for fiscal 2014 was $14.46 billion, whereas it was $15.70 billion for the same quarter in 2013.

 

Today Microsoft is to close the Nokia acquisition deal.
