Major Scientific Discovery: Argentina excavates the largest ever dinosaur fossil

Earth is the resting place of many fossils and by excavating the ground scientists find out a lot about our planet's ancient past. Recently, the world’s biggest dinosaur fossil was found in Argentina.

This exceptional story began three years ago when a family of farmers working on their crops stumbled across an extraordinary archaeological site in the Patagonia region of Argentina. The family immediately notified the Museum of Paleontology Egidio Feruglio (MEF) and the researchers, after extensive digging, found roughly 200 fossils.

Among the findings were huge bone fragments of neck, back and legs, as well as most of the vertebrae of the tail of a huge dinosaur. Researchers firmly believe that these are of a dinosaur and most probably, it is the world’s largest dinosaur ever found.

According to researchers, the creature walked the lands about 95 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period. Its weight was supposed to be nearly 80 tons and it was 65 feet tall (20 meters), not including the tail. Measurement from its head to the tip of its tail suggests that the dinosaur was over 130 feet (40 meters) long.

While the lately discovered dinosaur does not yet have a name, scientists have said that the dinosaur “will be named describing its magnificence and in honour to both the region and the farm owners who alerted us about the discovery.”
