Lessons That We Learned From "The Office"

In the lovely state of Pennsylvania, in the small city of Scranton, there is a small paper company with normal and random employees. Everyday, they come to work and meet their overwhelming boss who shows them “secure” magic tricks, occasionally does stand up comedy in the office, throws theme parties for the tiniest occasions such as “The Penguin Day,” and meddles in his workers’ private lives constantly. Seems like every normal work place, right? Well, not quite.

Nine years of The Office has made me think that my boss is not as much of a jerk face as I’d liked to claim, and it makes me kind of disappointed that my desk colleague is not an owner of a beet plantation, or a martial arts lover. Anyways, aside from the many management tactics, tips on how to annoy your colleagues, inappropriate jokes and creative workplace pranks that we were able to learn from this show, we also had the chance to get something really big out of it.

See the life lessons that we learned from this epic show, below.

The Office is not a safe place for Parkour

Source

And neither is any place on earth, really…

Source

Just don’t do that.

There are other activities that are advisable not to do in the office, such as

Planking

Source

Playing with dolls

Source

Imitating your co workers

Source

Standing naked in the warehouse

Source

Playing with dangerous weapon

Source

Tackling your coworkers

Source

or whatever this is…

Source

Dancing in a Willie Wonka outfit

Source

Oh no, wait: You can do the last one. It looks fun as hell.

Don’t have affair with your superior

Source

And in case you do, never make a “that’s what she said” joke front of your boss

Source

If your desk colleague really annoys you,

Source

there are various creative ways to mess with his head

Source

Some of them are really creative

Source

Some, just irritating

Source

And some of them are just mean

Source

But it will be satisfying to see how your colleague gets pissed

Source

It got so frustrating to have a normal colleague that I often thought that putting his stapler in Jell-O would provoke some kind of Dwight Shrute behavior. Unfortunately, it didn’t work.

Racism is bad, and especially in the office

Source

And a Diversity Day in the office is a perfect way to learn something.

Source

Well, kind of.

Fire drills in the office are good for safety matters, but sometimes the drill can get out hand

Source

And even when you announce the end of the drill

Source

Things like this may happen

Source

So, it’s advisable to stick to the PowerPoint presentation.

Don’t bring your cat to work

Source

Because there will be situations like these

Source

And it will be really stressful for the cat

Source

Right?

Bringing homemade food in the office

Source

is a great idea to make your colleagues like you, except

Source

well, maybe it isn’t always a great idea.

Always have a backup plan

Source

Otherwise…

Source

You will be really pissed when this happens on your wedding day.

Work can be stressful, but try to control your anger

Source

Because anger management classes can be stressful as well.

If you hate your work and you want to do something different

Source

There are some things that you should know

Source

And…

Source

because

Source

totally.

Synchronized jump group photos are fun

Source

but they never work.

There is no inappropriate joke

Source

Yet, on the other hand…

Source

Well, that is kind of an inappropriate joke, but funny.

Do whatever it takes to prove your point

Source

although, it’s not advisable to stand on the edge of a rooftop to make your views known.

Start your day with your favourite food

Source

because

Source

Amen, brother!

To throw an office party like a pro you will need

Enough booze

Source

Decorations

Source

The right tunes

Source

Food

Source

And the right dancing moves

Source

If you’ve arranged all of these,

Source

then you are good to go!

Never, ever lose your groove

Source

No matter where

Source

or how

Source

just

Source

keep dancing

Source

and you’ll be just fine.

Always throw an unforgettable presentation

Source

Because, visual identity is a key to success.

The workplace is a place where a common coworker may be

Your friend

Source

Your crush

Source

More than a friend

Source

The love of your life

Source

Not in every case, but sometimes it happens.

Goodbyes are always unpleasant

Source

And that is how we felt when this amazing show came to an end.

Source

Thank you, The Office, for everything you taught us.

Source

We miss you guys a ton.
