Lemon Water: What Are the Benefits and How Does it Affect Me?

Don’t you just love a good super-food? Lemons are absolutely packed with essential vitamins, antioxidants, fiber--everything but the kitchen sink, really.

 

My only question is: If lemons are so good for us, why in blazes do they induce such a pucker face? Crappy design flaw, evolution. Your speciation/mutation process really dropped the ball on that one.

 

Luckily, there’s a way to enjoy all of the quality nutrition that lemons have to offer without your face looking like it’s trying squint, kiss, and cry at the same time. You just squeeze a bit of that concentrated natural goodness into a glass of high quality H2O and begin reaping the salubrious citrus benefits.

 

What benefits you may ask? Almost too many to count, but we’ll give it a shot.

 

What Can Yellow Do For You?

Quite a bit, actually. Feel a flu coming on? Lemon water will raise your immune system via vitamin C. Sore joints? Lemon water reduces the inflammation that could be depleting your body of uric acid. Or perhaps you just need a quick cleanse? Boom. Lemon water detoxifies your body by enhancing enzyme function within your liver.

 

That’s why most juice cleansing hippies start their day with a fresh glass of 16 oz. lemon juice. That’s 473.176 ml for the metric folks, which is a ton of tasty lemon tang in the morning. Lemon water can even help you lose weight because of its high fiber content.

 

The major ingredients in lemon juice that most affect our fragile little systems are as follows:

  • Antioxidants

  • B-complex vitamins

  • Calcium

  • Iron

  • Magnesium

  • Potassium

  • Fiber

 

It’s like a hot shower for your insides. Lemon water gives you a full scrub, and should be a regular part of any health nut’s diet.

 

 

So How Do You Make it?

What, really? You don’t know? Squeeze a lemon into a glass of water and you’re good to go. Half a lemon is plenty for the folks who weigh south of 150 lbs. Again, that’s just shy of 69 kg for the rest of the planet.

 

Boy, the customary system sucks. Even the abbreviations are wonky. In what universe does “lbs.” correlate with “pound“?

 

But, I digress.

 

Either way, you should consider adding lemon water to your daily routine. It’s simple as can be, and quicker to do than you’d think.
