So, as you might imagine, this subject is…well, quite subjective. Everyone has their own stresses to deal with, and their own ways of dealing with them. What’s universal, however, is the need to navigate these stressful situations because of the chaotic pace and happenstance of the world around us.
So, what are the big time solutions to finding inner peace despite living in a seemingly chaotic world?
Let’s find out!
The pursuit of inner peace is most often associated with spirituality. By seeking to understand the religious traditions of our past, human beings have often found a powerful source of innate confidence and explanatory power.
One of the great stresses in any person’s life, is the inability to reconcile human suffering with an omnipotent creative force, and an individual purpose. The pursuit of spirituality is a journey of trying to rationalize and unify these three points.
To that effect, there are thousands of years’ worth of literature from all over the world that grapple with the issue. One avenue of finding peace is to examine the work of those who’ve also searched. Of course, spiritual pursuits don’t end with reading.
Psychology is the western worldview’s answer to a search for inner peace. Dismissive of spiritual pursuits as intangible, a naturalist seeks to understand the evolutionary origins of conflict and scientifically documented solutions for a problem.
This view takes the problem of chaos and sees it like a math problem. There is always a solution, so long as you’re willing to do the work crunching the numbers. This puts the focus on behavioural patterns and habitual activities that a person might perform.
It even goes so far as to examine brain chemistry for imbalances and mental disorder, which can then be classified and fine-tuned through medicinal intervention.
The truth, in my opinion, lies somewhere in between. Modern science answers the question of how to change circumstance and the best practices for success. Spirituality seeks to answer what you should be pursuing and why you are here.
The path you take is up to you...
