Google Launches Chrome Remote Desktop for Android

Managing your files when on the go has never been easier. Google has announced the Chrome Remote Desktop application for Android, allowing you to access your home computer from your Android smartphone or tablet. Chrome Remote Desktop has been around since 2011, and has conveniently allowed users to access their own computer from another computer or tablet.

With the release of Chrome Remote Desktop in 2011, Google took on remote connectivity. The beta release was labeled “Chromoting,” and it offered a safe connection between computers with the Chrome browser. All it took was a quick and easy installation of a plug-in to Chrome, along with an access code, and devices were connected. Now, Chrome Remote Desktop comes to mobile and allows truly remote connectivity, from Android smartphones and tablets.

How to use the Chrome Remote Desktop app

  • Enable remote access for your Mac or Windows computer, via the Chrome Web Store app.

  • Open the Android app on your phone, or tablet, and select your computer's name to connect.

  • Use your remote device just like you would at home.

You can download the Android Chrome Remote Desktop app from the Play Store. Mac users will have to wait until later this year for the iOS app.
