Flappy Bird returns in August! Until then, consider 5 exciting alternatives, #3 will make you want to smash up your screen

The super-addictive game that once drove millions of players crazy, and forced its creator take it down, is making a glorious comeback in the App Store in August. The new Flappy Bird won't get players hooked, causing them to play obsessively for hours on end: the sequel is a multiplayer game, designed to be less addictive than the original version.

As this repetitive but amusing game clearly struck a chord with the players, Flappy Bird has given rise to a multitude of clones. Until Flappy Bird's official sequel comes out, the fans will have to console themselves with imitations. Here are five Flappy alternatives to pass the time:

1. Duckie The Bird

Perfect for sci-fi lovers, Duckie The Bird is a space birdy game. Duckie is a little bird who is fighting for his survival on Mars. When you tap the screen, Duckie's wings flap to fly. And, don't forget, Duckie needs to avoid the pipes! The game's latest version has a new physics engine, which makes Duckie The Bird the top choice among all Flappy-like games.

2. Flappy Bert

Sesame Street also decided to take part in the Flappy Bird craze. The NGO behind Sesame Street, Sesame Workshop, has created a Flappy Bird variation called the Flappy Bert. The yellow muppet Bert travels through the city while trying to avoid the pipes. If Bert dies, he calls for Ernie, who is his best friend and roommate in the American TV show.

3. Splashy Fish

Splashy Fish is very close to the original Flappy Bird game, except that the protagonist is a fish. Splashy Fish goes on an adventure, safely swimming through the yellow pipe obstacles. Discover a mysterious underwater world with Splashy Fish!

4. Flappy Plane

Tap the screen to keep your plane in the air! Flappy Plane avoids obstacles as it explores the skies. The graphics of Flappy Plane are flatter than in the original version, and the controls are somewhat different. You have to touch and hold to fly up, and release to go down. Still, it's a fair clone of the authentic Flappy.

5. Flappy Bee

Flappy Bee's game concept is a bit different from Flappy Bird's. Instead of avoiding obstacles, the bee has to pick flowers and collect nectar, while trying not to fly off the screen. What makes the game challenging are the moons, which, like flowers, can be collected and make the bee fly faster. Keep the bee under control, or it will fly off the screen and end your game.
