Fashion Meets Tech: Google will offer Ray-Ban and Oakley Glass variants

Google Glass fans – prepare to look fabulous, as the Glass headset will soon come in a fashionable design. Google has teamed up with the world's biggest eyewear company, Luxottica Group, best known for their brands Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Vogue, to produce a new line of frames that will pack the Google Glass technology.

Google made the announcement yesterday on their official Google Glass blog, saying they are looking forward to the Glass entering a new chapter in its story. According to the blog,

“We see Glass as the next chapter in this long story. Light, simple and modular, Glass introduces new functionality as your glasses get smarter – but bringing your own style to Glass is just as important. Earlier this year, we launched the Titanium Collection, designed by the Glass team. Between frames, shades, and colours, there are over 40 different ways for Explorers to make Glass their own today… but that’s not enough.”

The Italian eyewear creator promises Glass products that consumers and clients will absolutely love. Luxottica's expertise in design and production would make the Google Glass more appealing, and their distribution strategies would make the Glass eyewear more accessible to consumers.

According to The Wall Street Journal, partnering with Luxottica could bring the Google Glass to more than 5, 000 US retail stores. Pricing details and release date haven't been disclosed by either company yet, although Google hopes to roll out the Luxottica designed Glass later this year.
