Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg Gets $1 Salary for 2013

Facebook's chief executive Mark Zuckerberg, who is considered to be one of the richest people in the world, has joined the $1 salary club. According to the regulatory filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, as published by Bloomberg News, Zuckerberg was paid one dollar in salary for 2013. The Silicon Valley start-up founder took a symbolic annual salary of one dollar, thus following the path of other Silicon Valley executives.

In 2012, when Facebook went public, Zuckerberg's salary had been reported at $503,205, while his total compensation for 2012 was $1.99 million.

Zuckerberg's total compensation for 2013 was $653,165, while he reportedly made $3.3 billion after exercising his stock options to buy 60 million shares--41.35 million of which Facebook offered in a secondary offering in December. Zuckerberg also gave 18 million shares to charity.

Zuckerberg's wealth is estimated to be around $27 billion, and he reportedly owns 426.3 million Facebook shares.
