Eight Useful Tips To Fit Exercise Into Your Self-employed Schedule

When you work for yourself, fitting in important exercise time can be tricky. But with the kind of flexibility that self-employment provides and these helpful tips, you’ll soon find the time to keep fit even with a busy or irregular schedule.

Join a 24-hr gym

Instead of scheduling your workouts around your gym’s opening hours, find one that stays open around the clock.

Use an exercise video

Pop in a yoga, Pilates or other workout DVD at home or in the office. You’ll save time commuting to the gym and be able sneak in important exercise whenever you have a bit of free time.

Make exercising a social event

Go on a sports date or group jog with your friends. You’ll catch up, strengthen social bonds and get fit all at once.

Walk or cycle to work or on errands

Why sit in traffic when you can be active on your journeys to and from work?

Combine work and fitness

Can you meet a client for a squash game or conduct a meeting while walking in the park? Be creative with your time by making your workdays more active.

Pick up the pace

Make your workouts shorter, but more intensive. Walk or jog faster and do more vigorous strength training to compensate for shorter workouts.

Combine your lunch break with a workout

Exercise for half an hour before lunch. It’s a great way to keep to an exercise schedule and you’ll get important fluids and carbohydrates when you need them most.

10-minute workouts

Three 10-minute workouts spread out over the day adds up to a full half hour of training. Squeeze in short exercise breaks whenever you can.
