It’s no secret that Apple has taken over the smartphone market that once belonged to Blackberry. While Apple now has new competitors such as Samsung, most smartphones today have touchscreens. Blackberry’s share of the market has fallen to the wayside, as the company has stayed out of the touchscreen technology race almost entirely.
While some technology pundits believe that Blackberry could eventually use touchscreens, Blackberry CEO John Chen has told media outlets that: “You will look to Blackberry going forward to do keyboards — I wouldn’t use the word exclusively, but predominantly.” That likely means more of the same for the company and its traditional keypads.
Blackberry’s market share has fallen to only a smidgen of the smartphone market, and their refusal to change and adapt to new conditions and consumer preferences is one of the biggest reasons why they’ve fallen so far behind. Instead of adapting to the growing and changing needs of its consumers, Blackberry has taken to static delivery, making no improvements on a product that has been out for over a decade.
