Beginner's Guide To Google+

Google+ is the second most popular social media networking site available today, with over 235 million users a month. Here are some tips to get you on Google+.

Your Profile

Google+ is connected to your Google account, so if you don’t have one you’ll have to set it up. There is a simple registration process.

After registering, you’ll need to fill out your profile. This is the page people you connect with will see so it’s important you put the right details in. Choose an appropriate cover photo and personal headshot; don’t make it about a business, even if you’re primarily planning to connect with people for business purposes.

Individual Contacts

Google+ will go through your contacts book, Gmail account (if you have one) and any other social profile to which you allow it access in order to suggest potential contacts for your circles.

Circles

Circles represent the way we naturally think about our social connections. You probably already have a “work crew” and a “university friends crew” and a “football team crew,” right? You can set up these same circles on Google+. Then, when you want to share something with just that group of people, you only have to select it.

Find People

You can find strangers that you might have common interests with in two ways:

1) Hashtags: Use hashtags like #football to find people who have listed that as a passion of theirs, or mention it in their updates. Invite them into your circles.

2) Communities: Communities are public discussion forums and there are communities on any range of topics you can think of. Search for ones that match your interests and start contributing!
