According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Amazon will announce a smartphone by June. What is notable about this smartphone is that it would display 3D content without the glasses being required. Amazon has, apparently, shown prototypes of its phone to developers in Seattle and San Francisco. The retailer plans to distribute the smartphone in September.
Amazon’s smartphone is reported to pack retina-tracking technology, which will give a 3D effect. This kind of technology is said to be incorporated in the four front-facing cameras of the device.
The retina-tracking sensors could also be used for device interaction. This implies that, with a simple glance, the user could go over lists of messages and emails. Amazon’s smartphone will supposedly run Fire, Amazon’s Android operating system.
Amazon’s handset is also reported to be able to take photos of shopping items and automatically order them via Amazon, but this hasn’t yet been confirmed.
Amazon has reportedly been developing its smartphone for years, but the handset seems to--finally--be right around the corner. The e-commerce giant hasn’t disclosed any details about the availability and pricing of its smartphone, so we simply have to wait until the launch date to find out.
Amazon has recently unveiled Fire TV, a streaming media set-top box, which gives users their own home theater experience.
