6 Reasons You Shouldn’t Hate Mondays, Or Yourself

You’d probably be hard-pressed to find many people who enjoy the jolt back to reality that is Monday morning. But if you hate Monday AND yourself, you really need to give yourself a break!

Here are six reasons not to hate Mondays, OR yourself!

1. Humans are fallible

No doubt you’ve heard the phrase “nobody’s perfect” plenty of times? It’s a cliché—but like many clichés, it’s a cliché because it’s true! So try to stop giving yourself such a hard time.

2. There’s no need to repeat history

Perhaps you “hate” yourself because you’ve been behaving in ways you’re not proud of? Maybe you’ve started Monday with a hangover one too many times? Accept it, move on, and try to break the cycle. You always have another chance to change your behaviour.

3. Nothing is certain

The only thing that’s certain in life is uncertainty. All manner of things could change in the blink of an eye—so try to live for the moment and don’t always assume things will go wrong.

4. This too shall pass

“This too shall pass” is a widely used expression, said to originate from the writings of medieval Persian poets. Even if you’re having a tough time now, whatever might be going on is inherently temporary.

5. “Good bits” are inevitable

Even on the darkest days, a few things tend to happen that will raise a smile. Even if it’s only the comforting taste of your morning coffee or the sight of the sunset, it’s worth hanging on to the “good bits” that every day brings—even Mondays!

6. Others probably aren’t judging you as much as you think

If you suffer from a negative self-image, the chances are you are overstating it to yourself. Generally people are far too wrapped up in their own complex existences to think that much about you.

As renowned self-help author Cheri Huber says, “If you had a person in your life treating you the way you treat yourself, you would have gotten rid of them a long time ago...”
