5 Foods For Migraines

Most medical experts don’t agree on all of the causes of migraines. For many, they seem to pop up at the smallest drop of a hat, such as a slight weather change. But there are foods that you can add to your diet that help combat migraines, easing the pain and sometimes preventing them before they get out of hand. Here are five foods that you’ll want to try out:

Vegetables

Vegetables contain countless vitamins and minerals that are helpful with everything from cell regeneration to cancer prevention. They also help to ease the pain of migraines, especially for women. Many women get migraines when their estrogen levels drop. The natural estrogen in vegetables helps to replace what’s been lost, easing the migraine.

Fish

Fish such as salmon, trout, and mackerel have omega-3 fatty acids that are known to help reduce inflammation in the body. For some individuals, migraines come on as a result of prolonged exposure to inflammation within the body. Eating fish helps to resolve some of that inflammation and reduce the migraines.

Coffee

For a few individuals, caffeine is a migraine trigger and is to be avoided. But for others, caffeine can help to reduce swelling in blood vessels. That can reduce migraine pain. You should check with your doctor before using caffeine medically.

Ginger

Much like the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish, ginger contains many anti-inflammatory properties. It is also known to ease nausea.

Grains and Beans

Foods like wholewheat grains and beans are rich in magnesium, which is a key nutrient for keeping migraines away. Try eating at least a few servings of magnesium-rich foods each day.
