zZzZz. This one is pretty self-explanatory, and it actually happens before you start your day, but if your body battery isn’t charged enough with sleep, it won’t want to function. Get up at your first alarm, and create a bedtime routine to assure your snooze is successful.
After your slumber, how can you expect to get up and going when your body is still at rest? Plan for a 5 or 10-minute stretch each morning to physically prepare your body to get itself going, and mentally give you that extra time to process that you are actually awake!
The Mayo Clinic has this great Guide to 10 Basic Stretches to get you started, but any sort of movement from wiggling to waltzing will get your blood flowing. Exercise has always been, and always will be one of the number one ways to kick start your day.
Sweeping, generic plans will be too overwhelming, while tiny two-item lists will be so small that you will lose the rest of the day to a cranked up lazy-o-meter. Find balance between the two by breaking them into smaller, tangible items.
Think of exercising. “I will go to the gym,” is broad and even scary. “I will walk for 10 minutes. I will practice dumbbell exercises for 10 minutes, and I will stretch,” separates the goal into smaller, digestible bits that you can take accountability for while you complete them. Yum, I love the taste of goals being accomplished!
Once you have your list of cleverly crafted to-dos in front of you, shut that phone OFF! If you’re working on the computer, flip the switch to kill the Internet.
Social media, technobabble, and other electronic distractions like television will kill your enthusiasm real quick if you aren’t careful. The fastest way to lose your motivation is to find yourself in a Facebook fog for hours. Disconnect and DO something.
