I can recall many times when I got lost in a new neighbourhood, even when I had my Google Maps on. I'm just that type of person. And each time I wander around and walk into what looks like a construction zone, I start to panic and cry. You can imagine my excitement when I read about Google Maps's new Explore feature. No more tears of fear and panic, I thought, only feelings of joy when spotting a small Italian restaurant right around the corner of that place I don't know!
Google announced its new Maps feature, the Explore button, which is located at the bottom right corner of your map. All wanderlusters can now have a personalized guide that will take them places to eat, see, and do. Regardless of the time of day or the area, Explore will suggest places and activities, even if you're neighbourhoods away, so that you can plan your day out.
The results Explore gives you might even change depending on the 5, or 20-minute walk that's ahead of you, or the thunderstorms that await in the midst of your journey. Explore will provide you with all the necessary information, just make sure your location and history are turned on to achieve best results.
When you arrive at your destination, even more info is on the way. If you're at an Italian restaurant, for instance, and you're using an Android device, the My Location button at the bottom right of your map will provide you with restaurant reviews. You can even save your location for later, so that your location experience improves over time.
Sounds like Foursquare, right? Even though the check-in and discovering new places app split into two apps with distinct purposes, the main app will focus on serving recommendations and discovering places. And no one wants to recommend places they have cried at, right? Oh, deary me.
