Apple is being ambitious about its flagship smartphone's September launch, ordering a whopping 70 to 80 million smartphone devices, reports the Wall Street Journal. The tech giant has ordered both 4.7-inchers and 5.5-inchers to be ready by the end of 2014, a sign of the company's confidence in its latest smartphone model.
It is the most anticipated iPhone ever, and it's no surprise. The 6 boasts a unique coating that is a blend of sapphire elements, curved edges, and a sleek aesthetic.
Apple has been similarly enthusiastic about previous models. The iPhone 5S and 5C series launch came to pass with an order of 50 to 60 million devices. Market researcher Counterpoint found Apple's iPhone 5S to be the best-selling smartphone in May of this year.
The Journal reports that Apple might be thinking big on the upcoming iPhone 6 demand because of its partnership with China Mobile, which will help the company break into emerging markets.
One iPhone manufacturer, Foxconn, is rumoured to have sped up its hiring rates, employing about 100,000 new workers so that the iPhone 6 demand can be met. Foxconn is also said to be employing 10,000 robots for the iPhone 6 assembly lines in order to meet the demand.
Another iPhone manufacturer, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, is said to begin the iPhone 6 manufacturing process this month, according to Reuters. The 4.7-inch model production will start in the third week of July, while the 5.5-inch production will start in the second week of August, states the same source.
