10 Instant Console Classics for the Xbox One

Microsoft’s next gen console, the Xbox One, was released in late 2013 to much anticipation and fanfare. But console games, like all technology-based innovations, can’t maintain their cutting-edge status for long. Only the best (or the most loved) titles hold up in the fast-paced world of the gaming industry.

Here are 10 of the best Xbox One games released so far. Let’s start with the old favorites reloaded.

1. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

If you haven’t had enough of this 18th Century Caribbean adventure, then this game will give you the ultimate graphical experience in the popular AC series. There aren’t any significant changes in the gameplay or story, but this sequel has more depth and a larger scope than its predecessors.

2. Forza Motorsport 5

If you like tight corners and breakneck speed, this is the game for you. It’s the fifth (and best so far) in a series of stunningly vivid and interactive racing games. The accelerator capabilities of the One have triggered the graphic appetites of game developers, and it’s quite apparent in this game. It’s thrilling, engrossing, and infinitely appealing to play. It’s also exclusive to the Xbox One.

3. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

Touted as the best of the Tomb Raider series, this is immediately apparent in the first few minutes. It is a far cry from the PC version, engaging the player in the fast-paced and thrilling adventures of the buxom Lara Croft. A must-have for the Xbox One.

4. NBA 2K14

If you’re too short to make the pros, but really love the game, this is definitely the next best thing. Xbox One launched with this virtual basketball game that’s miles ahead, in terms of graphics and real-life feel, from its nemesis: NBA Live.

5. Call of Duty: Ghosts

The 10th iteration of the phenomenally popular series, Ghosts is the latest and greatest for hardcore FPS fanatics. But even the casual gamer can enjoy the spectacular single-player mode, without having to listen to a slew of 12-year-olds claiming familiarity with their mothers.

6. Dead Rising 3

Zombie fans, get ready to be blown away. Remember how the power of the One has vastly improved game play? You’ll be afraid that zombies are real during Nightmare Mode. Another Xbox One exclusive.

7. FIFA 14

The football frenzy moves from Brazil to your living room with this high-quality, action-packed sports game. The Xbox One version transitioned nicely from previous platforms.

Now that we’ve looked at the tried-and-true winners, let’s see some of the novel offerings game developers have released.

8. Watch Dogs

Terrifying scenarios about what could happen in an ultra-connected world are the central motif in this open-world, third-person, action-adventure game. You can choose to be the hero or the villain, but either way you get to experience the virtual journey in high def.

9. Child of Light

A 2-dimensional side-scrolling game, this fairy-tale inspired fantasy adventure makes full use of available technology to fascinate and captivate everyone but die-hard role-playing gamers, who will still enjoy the gameplay. It may not be the ultimate RPG, but the Xbox One version is worthy enough to be included in the top 100 at least.

10. Super Time Force

Time travel has never been presented at such a frenetic and hilarious pace. Gamers looking for a fun and invigorating respite from serious action games will love this totally mad, retro-style shooting game.
