$36M in Products Stolen from Brazilian Samsung Factory

Twenty armed men walked into a Samsung factory in Campinas, Brazil late on Monday night. Over the course of three hours, and while the rest of the factory continued working as if nothing was happening, they loaded up $36 million in Samsung notebooks, tablets, and smartphones into seven trucks before smoothly making off with the loot.

The thieves, disguised as night shift staff and carrying submachine guns, took a few employees hostage while the rest of the 200-odd workers obliviously carried on working.

The thieves removed the employees’ phone batteries so they could work uninterrupted for three hours. Brazilian police suspect an inside job given the extensive knowledge the thieves had of the factory and its hours.

Samsung released a statement, claiming they were “very concerned about this incident.”

“Fortunately, nobody was hurt. We are fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation, and we will do our best to avoid it happening again,” said Samsung.
