LEAK: Is Nvidia Making a Gaming Tablet?

According to a recent filing with the Global Certification Forum, graphics card maker Nvidia is apparently making a gaming tablet. The device is reported to carry the Shield name, the same one Nvidia used for their PC gaming handheld.

Called a “Notebook/Tablet” in a tweet sent out by the GCF on Monday, it seems the device has some sort of transforming feature.

The Verge caught the filing first, reminding us that a Shield Tablet entry had appeared in an earlier submission to the Federal Communications Commision. Nvidia also accidentally posted an entry on their website for a “Shield Tablet,” although it has since been removed. Specs for an “Nvidia Mocha” outlining a device with a 7.9” screen also surfaced on benchmark website GFXbench, but they too have been taken down.

The Shield, premiered by Nvidia in July of last year, was an ambitious project for an Android-based PC gaming portable unit that unfortunately didn’t live up to expectations. If Nvidia decides to release a dedicated gaming slate, it won’t be the first: Razer’s got the bragging rights on that one with their Edge tablet, complete with snap-on controller.

Ironically, the Edge is equipped with an Nvidia graphics chip.
