Californian Bitcoin holders will secure a future for their currency as Bitcoins will be accepted as a legal paying option. California's Governor, Jerry Brown, has signed a bill, dubbed AB 129, that allows Bitcoins, and other digital currencies, to be used as valid currencies for shopping.
The bill's author, democratic assembly member Roger Dickinson, has argued that alternative payment methods are growing in these digital times, and that ignoring them is impractical. He has suggested that there be no restrictions regarding alternatives to cash and credit cards, and that those who use such methods are not violating the law.
Dickinson says, “In an era of evolving payment methods, from Amazon Coins to Starbucks Stars, it is impractical to ignore the growing use of cash alternatives. This bill is intended to fine-tune current law to address Californians’ payment habits in the mobile and digital fields.”
Bitcoins have seen a sky-high interest amongst users, with the currency being accepted as a payment option for hotel bookings and property. Using them in general, however, has always been off the grid as it breaks the current law in many states.
