10 Indispensable Chrome Extensions for Creative People

The Internet has truly become indispensable. We use it for work, play, communication, creation, and learning. Developers have made all of the above even easier by making helpful extensions available on their preferred browser, Google Chrome.

Here are 10 Chrome extensions that inspire and educate us.

1. Stylebot

If you’ve ever come across a site that had interesting content, but you just can’t get past the paisley background, Stylebot can save the day.

A very user-friendly extension to Chrome, it lets you customize parts of most web pages or change the whole thing with available style sheets. The problem is that some of the contributed style sheets no longer work, but hey, there’s always a workaround, right?

2. Pin It Button

If you see an interesting image on any web page while browsing with Chrome, you can use the “Pin It” button to quickly and easily save the screenshot to your Pinterest board. It will also provide the image URL as a rollover so you’ll have no problem finding the original site again -- unless you turn off the feature, of course.

3. Font Playground

This is a great extension if you want to preview a certain font in real time before publishing it on your website. It lets you alter the font style, colour, and size of any web page for a preview of your chosen typography, and then gives you the code to implement your favourite. Perfect for test-happy designers.

4. Momentum

Its creator, Levi Bucsis, calls it a “personal dashboard” which appears every time you open a new tab or window. You can customize it with a personal photo, goal of the day, as well as a to-do list. Sometimes it just takes a small nudge to turn a lazy day into one of productivity.

5. Awesome Screenshot

This extension lets you selectively capture screenshots of webpages, annotate, and save the image either as a local file or for upload on the Awesome Screenshot website for instant sharing. Supremely useful if you’re trying to explain how something works online.

6.Evernote Web Clipper

This is a great tool for research. It allows you to clip what you need as you browse through web pages. Evernote Web Clipper will keep track of everything so you can go back to it later. Of course, you need to have an Evernote account to begin with, otherwise it won’t work. Perfect for faster collaboration on creative projects.

7. StayFocusd

This extension is so very necessary for anyone who works from home. It helps you get work done, instead of frittering the time away browsing Reddit. It limits the time you spend on specific sites such as social networks, or even blocks sites entirely. Indispensable for the ADD afflicted.

8. Feedly

An occasionally stylish but always comprehensive and customizable online RSS reader, it keeps you up-to-date on what you choose in an easy-to-read format. Keep your finger on the pulse and eye on the prize with Feedly. (RIP Google Reader).

9. Hover Zoom

Thumbnails can be a pain when you can’t see the minute detail, and you don’t always have the patience to check the full size image. This extension helps with that by letting you look at the larger picture without having to click on the thumbnail.

10.Google Dictionary

And last but certainly not least, we have this handy-dandy tool to surreptitiously find the definition of any word on a web page simply by double-clicking. Okay, how many of you double-clicked “surreptitiously”?
