Google Expands its Reach Even Further with Google Domains

Google has been quietly testing a new service for registering website domains for a while now. And without much ado, it recently put this service, called Google Domains, into action in beta.

At the moment, the service is invite-only, and Google has so far granted access to only a small group of people. This test group can buy and transfer domains through Google Domains and in return, send feedback about their experiences with the service. The company announced that customers will be able to set up a domain of their choosing, but Google will not be “hosting“ the web site. What it will do is  handle the domain registration side, while its partners, such as Squarespace, Wix, Weebly, and Shopify will help customers build websites in no time.

The service also boasts free private registrations, branded email that forwards to an existing mail account, $12 domain registrations, email aliases, customizable sub-domains, and domain management tools. To many, it looks like Google is going to give GoDaddy a run for their money in the domain registrar business.
