The future looks bright...on Mars. You probably think I’m joking, but, rocket tycoon Elon Musk said it. The Tesla CEO believes we could build a “self-sustainable city” on Mars in the next decade. In an interview with CNBC, Musk says that in order to preserve humanity, barring a cataclysm, humans should pave the way for a civilization on Mars.
Musk is, shall we say, optimistic: “I’m hopeful that the first people can be taken to Mars in 10-12 years.” He is not, however, the first proposer of this seemingly outrageous concept. The Netherlands-based Mars One foundation wants to colonize Mars on a one-way mission to the Red Planet, commencing in 2023, with 202,586 volunteer settlers.
It’s a science-fiction concept, but not a futile hope. Physicists and planetary experts believe landing in Mars by 2024 is reasonable. And his space-revolutionizing company only confirms Musk’s enthusiasm – the real-life Iron Man established SpaceX in 2002, and only recently revealed the spacecraft that is designed to take astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). Take a look at Elon Musk unveiling Dragon V2:
SpaceX is revolutionizing rocket technology and the way we see space – taking the idea of Mars from temporary destination for exploration to long-lasting, self-sustaining home. The rocket visionary has also presented SpaceX, the first commercial craft to fly out to ISS and an upgrade to the Dragon Version 2.
