Toyota Presents Two New Customizable Cars for Kids

How does the idea of hearts and flowers on the hood of your car sound? If it's not a good idea for you, I'm sure your kids might like it. At this year's International Tokyo Toy show, the Japanese car manufacturer unveiled two new Camatte concept-car models – the Camatte57s, and the Camatte57s Sport. And the coolest thing is, kids can customize the hood of the car.

Thanks to the 7,000 LEDs installed in the hood, any kid with a drawing can get their own customized hood. Toyota said the pictures are not displayed in high-resolution because the company wanted the pictures to look as if a child drew them. Which they did.

The Camatte concept is two years old. Toyota first presented the kid-friendly conceptual car at the International Tokyo Toy Show in 2012.

Trying to get the kids off to an early start behind the wheel, Toyota followed up on the Camatte concept vision the following year, presenting the Camatte57s.

The third year at the Toyota Toy Show saw the Camatte57s concept, only better. The latest Toyota Camatte concept invites children to actually learn about cars. Both of the Camatte 57s versions are all-electric, have detachable body panels, two front kids seats accompanied by one for a parent, and pedals for gas and breaks that the children operate while the parent steers. And of course, the hood of the car can be customized with hearts, or kittens.

“Camatte” means “care” in Japanese. By customizing a part of the car, the automaker wanted children, and adults too, to learn about caring for cars, as well as caring for others.

Toyota’s concept car is still not street-legal, but considering its showcasing three years in a row, maybe one day we’ll see it on the road.
