Megaupload owner Kim Dotcom offers $5 million for information leading to his exoneration

Two years ago, Megaupload, a leading file sharing web sites, was shut down by the US Government after founder Kim Dotcom and his three associates were arrested in New Zealand on charges of money laundering, copyright infringement, and racketeering, among other felonies. Dotcom was accused of causing damages to the entertainment industry totalling $500 million.

Prior to the arrest, Dotcom operated the Megaupload empire from his $30 million mansion. His  immovable property now confiscated, the internet entrepreneur has been battling against the charges and his eventual extradition to the US. Kim Dotcom is now offering a $5 million reward to anyone who can provide information that will help him win his case. His latest defense is that he cannot be found responsible for copyright infringements committed by others: he insists that Megaupload removed links to copyrighted material whenever the site was asked to do so.
