We all know that, when we grow up, we want to be happy, right? And we think that there are so many things that hold us back from happiness, like our past, the people around us, our partner's imperfections, the things our neighbour has and we don't… If you try closing your eyes and asking yourself what you really need to be happy, you will realize, however, that the only thing that holds you back is yourself.
Following, you’ll find a list of ten basic things you’ll have to stop doing to reach the sometimes-elusive state of happiness.
You must live life your own way with no need for others’ approval. People will judge your decisions and acts, but don't let this influence your way of thinking. Do what you think is good for you and this will contribute to making you happy.
This is something that eats you from the inside. You should learn how to live in peace with the people that did something wrong to you or with the mistakes you have made. And we all make mistakes.
This does not exist. For real. Your parents will never be perfect and your partner will never become the prince/princess you’re hoping for. Learn to accept things and people as they are and revel in their imperfection. Sounds simple, doesn’t it?
I don't suggest you give up your grandfather's fortune. Enjoy the money you earn every day with the hard work you are doing. But don't let money lead you in your life. You will only forget how to be happy.
The right moment is NOW. If you wait for the perfect circumstances to do something, you will wait forever. Use the moment you have. We never know what tomorrow brings.
There’s rarely a good excuse for forgetting your daughter's birthday, or not giving a good morning kiss to your wife/husband. Make no excuses and start doing things right instead.
Be happy with what you have and quit yearning for the things you don’t. Certain things simply belong to others and we need to live with this.
No one wants negative energy around. Be positive, cheerful and honest. Smile and be happy.
The past is in the past. You don't have the power to take it back or change it. Just learn to live with it and you will feel the real joy of life.
Be honest about who you are, with yourself and everyone around you. It’s a true key to self-acceptance and, in a related vein, contentment.
